A website budget needs two numbers: what it costs to launch, and what it costs to keep using. A monthly builder subscription, a finished company website and a shop with checkout cover different work.
Here are concrete examples. Shopify Basic lists USD 29/month when billed yearly, or USD 39 with monthly billing, in its USD pricing. Our current launch offer is USD 99 for a one-page Starter site or USD 299 for Professional, with up to six custom pages. These are examples of different purchases, not a market average or equivalent packages. Shopify pricing · Our scope and prices.
For an established business, I would begin with the job the website must do. Letting a buyer check your services and contact you is a smaller project than taking payment, managing bookings or keeping an extensive catalogue up to date.

Prices were checked on 18 October 2026. Shopify's local currency, billing and payment options depend on location; check the price offered to your business. Its subscription is not a quote for someone to build the site for you.
Our introductory prices require honest feedback and permission to feature the completed website. Starter's USD 99 offer applies to the first purchase per customer or business; later sites of the same scope cost USD 199. The full conditions and exclusions are on our pricing page. These offers should not be read as the normal price of every website project.
Should you build it yourself or hire someone?
A builder can be a sensible choice when someone on your team can prepare the content, arrange the pages and test the result. Put that person's time in the budget. Even when software generates a layout, someone still has to check the claims, images, contact details and buying process.
Hiring a designer changes who does that work. Ask whether the fee includes writing, choosing and preparing photos, designing the pages, connecting enquiries and checking mobile use. A low quote based on finished material can be perfectly reasonable. It is less useful if you need that material created and the quote leaves it out.
For example, “six pages” could mean placing six pages of supplied copy into an agreed design. It could also mean interviewing the team, rewriting the offer and photographing the work before designing anything. Match those responsibilities before comparing prices.
What makes one website quote higher than another?
Start with the functions the customer must use.
A company website: the buyer checks what you do, looks at credible examples and contacts you. Agree which services need their own pages and what evidence you can supply.
A product catalogue: the buyer searches, filters and opens product records. The work includes deciding which fields to use, matching photos and handling missing information. Importing a clean spreadsheet and repairing an incomplete one are different jobs.
An online store or booking system: the customer completes a transaction or reserves a slot. Specify the checkout or booking service, confirmations, cancellations and any connection to other systems. A contact button does not include those features.
Next, agree the work after the first design: how many revision rounds, who uploads the starting content and who makes later changes. “Hosting included” tells you where the site runs. It does not, by itself, promise unlimited edits, fresh articles or ongoing search work.
If you sell parts, our catalogue preparation guide shows the information to collect before requesting a catalogue quote. Service businesses should prepare an equally concrete list of services, locations served, project examples and contact routes.
Calculate the cost over two years
Use the same period for every offer:
Two-year cost = initial build + hosting or platform fees for both years + domain fees for both years + agreed extras.
Do not add hosting twice when it is already included in a build or platform price. Keep email, paid apps, maintenance and content work on separate lines so you can see whether they are included.
Here is an example using our Professional launch offer:
| Item | Year one | Year two |
|---|---|---|
| Website build within the agreed Professional scope | USD 299 | No new build assumed |
| Basic hosting | Included | From USD 99 |
| Domain | Paid separately to your registrar | Renewal paid separately |
| Extra work or services | Only as agreed | Only as agreed |
The build and basic hosting subtotal starts at USD 398 over two years: 299 + 99. This is not the complete cost. Add your domain charges, any applicable taxes and any agreed extras. It assumes the stated scope and a second-year renewal at the current starting rate; confirm the actual renewal quote.
For comparison, twelve months at USD 29 equals USD 348 in platform fees, while twelve monthly payments of USD 39 equal USD 468. That arithmetic explains annual billing; it does not show which option gives your business better value. An ecommerce platform and a presentation website provide different functions.
Before paying, ask for the amount due now, the renewal basis, and any minimum term or cancellation condition.
Comparing quotes in USD, MXN or another currency
If your business is in Mexico and one supplier quotes in US dollars while another quotes in pesos, ask each to write the currency explicitly: USD or MXN. A dollar sign alone is ambiguous. Confirm whether tax is included, what is due now, and the currency and amount used for renewals.
Compare the same pages, functions, supplied materials and support period before converting totals. For your own cash budget, note the exchange rate and date used, along with any payment fees. A converted figure is a budgeting estimate; it does not establish a typical local website price.
Does redesigning an existing website cost less?
Sometimes you can keep useful copy, photography and page structure. Sometimes the old site adds work: recovering access, moving content, preserving valuable page addresses, transferring a catalogue or reconnecting a form.
Ask the supplier to inspect the current site before pricing a replacement. The quote should say what will be reused, what will be rebuilt and how existing functions will be checked. If page addresses change, ask how visitors using old links will reach the relevant new pages.
A limited repair may be enough when the problem is specific, such as a broken enquiry link or an unclear service page. A full redesign needs a reason tied to how customers use the site. Neither option can honestly guarantee that search rankings or enquiries will increase.
For a closer comparison of repairs, a visual refresh and a rebuild, use the website redesign cost guide. It helps identify which parts of an existing site can stay and which need their own budget.
What to send when asking for a quote
Give each supplier the same short brief:
- Purpose: what should a visitor understand or do?
- Scope: which pages, languages, products or services must be included?
- Materials: what copy, photos and data are ready, and what needs creating?
- Functions: contact links, search, booking, checkout or integrations?
- Ownership and access: who controls the domain, accounts and files, and what is handed over?
- After launch: who makes changes, what is included, and what renews?
- Acceptance: which pages and customer actions will you check before approving delivery?
Ask for exclusions alongside the price. If a requirement is unresolved, have the supplier identify it before you commit.
Choose the scope before choosing the price
Look at completed work and clearly labelled demos, then ask what the supplier would deliver for your particular business. A demo shows a design direction; it does not prove future sales.
If you would like to discuss our service, send your current site or business details and the brief above. We can agree what belongs in a preview and what needs a separate quote. Use our current pricing and scope to check the offer before making a decision.
